R/3 Architecture of SAP Development

SAP Developers use a three-layered architecture that comprises the presentation layer, the application layer, and the database layer. Here, ‘R’ signifies the real-time system and ‘3’ represents the three-tier architecture. 

Presentation layer : This layer comprises of the software components that contribute to the SAP GUI. It is the interconnector between the system and its users.

Application layer : The application layer process the business logic and acts as an intermediate between the presentation layer and the database layer.

Database layer : It stores all the data of ERP SAP systems, and it is the central database.

What is an SAP ABAP?

An SAP ABAP Developer is responsible for developing software applications using SAP’s standard programming language called ABAP. ABAP stands for Advanced Business Application Programming. An SAP ABAP Developer uses the ABAP tool to develop the SAP R3 platform. An SAP ABAP Developer plays a very important role in application development. SAP ABAP Developers’ roles and responsibilities may vary from company to company.

SAP database stores all the program files written in ABAP language, and it will never be stored in external files. ABAP is an executable unit or a library. Reports and Module pools are the two ABAP executable units of ABAP Programming language.
