Grant support extension for Scottish waste management firms

Coronavirus-hit waste management businesses in Scotland have until the end of August to apply for a grant to assist them in adapting their operations.
Launched by Zero Waste Scotland and the Scottish Government, up to £10,000 per site is available towards the capital costs associated with changing infrastructure and equipment. These adaptations are designed to maintain environmental performance and sustainability while implementing controls to prevent the spread of the virus.
Examples of possible modifications include alterations to sorting lines or implementing traffic management on site.
Charlie Devine, resource management spokesman at Zero Waste Scotland, said: “We know many waste management firms have had to adapt their processes. The whole sector is being challenged to work differently whilst waste streams are also being disrupted.
“There are grants available, as well as support in how to access them. We have extended the time limit to apply and I’d urge all waste management businesses in Scotland to look into the resources available to support them.”
The original deadline has now been extended until 31 August.
One-to-one advice is also available for businesses looking to address issues created through the pandemic and help maximise recycling and recovery opportunities. This covers development of business plans and marketing initiatives, as well as identification of diversification opportunities. Zero Waste Scotland can also provide advice and training on meeting the challenges of bringing businesses back with operational restrictions.
