Xiaomi Mi Band 5: Everything we know and what we want to see (Update: May 15)

Update: May 15, 2020 (10:30 AM ET): The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 could be about to launch soon. As spotted by Indiashopps , the Taiwan National Communication Commission (NCC) just certified a Xiaomi device with model number XMSH10HM. The model number of the newly certified device is similar to that of the Mi Band 4 which comes bearing model number XMSH07HM. This indicates that XMSH10HM could indeed be the Mi Band 5.
Given that the Mi Band 4 was released in June last year, the Mi Band 5 could also drop around the same time. In that case, it’s certification right now makes all the sense in the world.
Besides the possible Mi Band 5 listing, Indiashopp also reports that it spotted a wearable called Mi Smart Band 4C on the website of Indonesia’s telecom authority. This product has the same model number as the Redmi Band which was recently launched in China. Therefore, it’s possible that Xiaomi is prepping to launch the Redmi Band as the Mi Band 4C globally.
Could both the Mi Band and Mi Band 4C launch simultaneously? We’re not sure yet, but we’ll keep you posted as and when we know more.

Xiaomi Mi Band 5: All the rumors we know so far

As we near the possible Xiaomi Mi Band 5 release date, we’re hearing more and more rumors about Xiaomi’s upcoming fitness tracker. Back in January, we heard of some potential hardware upgrades that were coming to the Mi Band line, as well as a rumored release date (well, release month).
Rumor has it the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will come with a much larger 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display. That’s a pretty big increase compared to the Xiaomi Mi Band 4’s 0.95-inch display, so hopefully it won’t interfere with the Mi Band’s traditional lightweight form factor. The new AMOLED display is also rumored to have more contrast than the Mi Band 4’s.
The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 and Mi Band 4 both had NFC support, but only in China. According to recent rumors, though, the Mi Band 5 will add NFC support for the rest of the globe. We still aren’t sure if the Mi Band 5 will only support Xiaomi’s Mi Pay system or if it will branch out...
