Hello POCO. The F2 Pro launched, and the price wars are ON!
Expected to be arriving on mi.com/uk later this summer, this is the Xiaomi POCO F2 Pro. UK pricing isn’t known at this stage, but we do know that the base model (6GB RAM and 128GB storage) is just €499. The next model up (8GB RAM and 256GB storage) is €599. Both are available in Neon Blue, Phantom White, Electric Purple or Cyber Grey but… wait a moment. Just, for a minute, let’s assume that the €499 price-tag ends up being £499. Keep that figure in your head for a minute while I go through the specs.
First, it’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 CPU (octa-core), so it’s fast as flip. Next, it’s got 5G. Then you add in the LPDDR speedy RAM and UFS storage, mix it up with some LiquidCool Technology (2.0) which includes a vapour chamber and multi-layered graphene. Add all of that together and you’ve got yourself a speed demon that won’t get hot.
It’s got TÜV Rheinland High Gaming Performance Certification and a 4,700mAh battery which does 30W fast charging via the in-box 33W charger (USB-C). You’ll see it get from 0% to 64% in just 30 minutes and charge to 100% in 63 minutes.
So, a fast phone which will meet all your gaming needs and charge quickly. Looking good.
The screen is a 6.67″ AMOLED 2400×1080 Full HD+ display (contrast ratio 5,000,000:1) with HDR10+ and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 plus an in-display fingerprint sensor. The phone itself is 8.9mm thick and weighs 218g.
Camera-wise, there’s a quad-rear lens arrangement with a 64 megapixel main lens (Sony IMX686 f/1.89), a 13 megapixel ultra-wide lens, 5 megapixel macro and a 2 megapixel depth sensor. There’s 8K video support and, up front, a 20 megapixel pop-up camera.
OK. Camera arrangement seems very decent. This all seems a bit similar to the OnePlus 8 (which has a similar screen, camera arrangement, CPU and memory) but the 8GB / 128GB OnePlus 8 is £599. Granted, there’s a bit less RAM (6GB) on the base POCO F2 Pro, but you get the same storage and similar everything else for (OK, no 90Hz screen but) potentially £100 less.
Hmm… very interesting.
